The peroxidase enzyme group, to which lactoperoxidase belongs, is a group of naturally occurring enzymes that are present in milk, but also in saliva, lungs and tears in humans. Lactoperoxidase has antioxidant properties and is also an anti-microbial and anti-bacterial agent in the presence of its substrates.

Hygiene and Cosmetics
Because of its anti-microbial action, lactoperoxidase is found in various oral hygiene products (toothpaste, mouthwash, etc.) or in cosmetics for the preservation of creams or in skin care.

Antimicrobial and Agriculture
Lactoperoxidase can be used in agriculture for the treatment of mildew. Mildew is a type of micro-organism of the oomycete family sharing characteristics with fungi but also with algae.
